What the source explains
Anthropic’s November 2025 article describes two sources of overhead in tool-rich agents: loading many tool definitions into context and repeatedly passing intermediate results through the model. It explores code execution as a way to discover tools and process data more selectively. This is an architectural pattern and a vendor engineering example, not a guarantee that every MCP integration becomes cheaper or safer. Code execution introduces its own runtime and security responsibilities. The source is useful because it shifts attention from model choice alone to the movement, representation and processing of information around the model.
Our career interpretation: draw the data path
For data-engineering and FDE portfolios, diagram the path from source system to transformation to final action. Mark where credentials live, which fields are sensitive and which values the model truly needs to inspect. A deterministic aggregation might belong in code even if an agent decides which aggregation to request. Show the difference between reading a record and modifying it. This is our proposed analysis exercise; it is not evidence that any named company uses your design. Clear boundaries can make a small project more convincing than adding many integrations without explaining permissions or failure handling.
An inexpensive experiment with meaningful measurements
Use local sample data and two equivalent implementations: one that sends full records through a model-facing interface and one that returns only the fields required for the task. You can compare payload size and correctness without buying API credits. Add an explicit schema check and a test for an unexpected field. Document the tradeoff: reducing context can remove noise but can also omit information needed for a correct decision. A good engineering report explains how it detects that omission. If you later test with a model, measure actual end-to-end latency and cost instead of assuming a smaller message automatically improves the complete workflow.
Put it into practice
Your next research steps.
- Draw data and permission boundaries before adding tools.
- Move deterministic transformations into inspectable code.
- Test that reduced context still supports the required decision.
